The Iroquois is a nation made up of the 5 tribes of the Eastern Woodlands .The Iroquois were mostly farmers, their most important crop was corn.Corn was important to the Iroquois because it had many uses.It was cooked as a porridge often with beans and or other crops.Usually it was used green or dried in soup.

The Iroquois would also collect berries and nuts such as chestnuts, butternuts, acorns, and hickory nuts. They also would collect many kinds of roots.

During the fall after the crops were collected many families left the village to hunt. Bigger animals would be hunted with bows and arrows or got captured in pits or nooses. Smaller animals would be hunted with blowguns or a bow and arrow. They would also be caught in nets or snares.

Usually the Iroquois would eat one meal a day.But that meal would mostly be a large one.There would always be food to eat though.Men would hunt the big animals for ex. bears, beavers, elk, moose, and deer. Tobacco would be grown by men in small gardens, and was the only crop grown by men who used at or in a ceremonies.
Many foods would be cooked in pots over fire, but corn would be cooked in a pile of hot ashes. Some meats would be cooked in clay pots or boiled on open spits. Most vegetables and meats would be cooked on top of a fire in an open hearth.
